When the Dutch Swing College Band returned from a highly successful tour through South America they brought with them a tune - Quena Blues - which had been composed by their leader Peter Schilperoort for a line-up of Indian flute (quena), cavaquinho (a small ukelele-like guitar used by native ensembles) bass and drums. The tune was recorded in Europe and achieved tremendous success- so much so that it was decided to record an entire LP with the DSC playing famous Latin-American tunes in the jazz-idiom.
